Intermediate Mandarin classes

Course objectives

Level 4 aims to improve students’ Chinese skills by introducing longer dialogues and scenarios, deconstructing more complex sentence structures and teaching new vocabulary. This course will be conducted in 60% Chinese and students will be encouraged to use as much Chinese as possible to communicate in the classroom.

Level 5 aims to further improve students’ Chinese skills by introducing more complex text types (news articles, emails, short stories etc.), deconstructing sentence structures and teaching more vocabulary. This course will be conducted in 60% Chinese and students will be encouraged to use as much Chinese as possible in the classroom.

Level 6 aims to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired through level 4 and 5 in the format of a massive revision and content creation. Students will have the chance to apply and create through role-plays, presentations, creative writing etc.

Level 4

昨晚的同学聚会开得不错,我们都玩得很开心。

zuo wan de tong xue ju hui kai de bu cuo. wo men dou wan de hen kai xin.

Last night’s school reunion was quite a success, so we all had a great time.

得 de (degree particle), 都 dou (all)

Level 5

有人说,中文是世界上最难的语言之一。

you ren shuo, Zhong wen shi shi jie shang zui nan de yu yan zhi yi.

It is said that Chinese is one of the hardest languages in the world.

最zui (the most),之一 zhi yi (one of…)

Level 6

只要有恒心,谁都能把中文学好。

zhi yao you heng xin, shui dou neng ba Zhong wen xue hao.

As long as there is perseverance, anyone can learn Chinese well.

More class details

Standard group intermediate classes are 1.5hr per lesson and 10 lessons per term. If you miss a lesson, you can attend a make-up lesson of the same level or lower in the same week (if available). Contact your teacher first to arrange your make-up session.

Textbooks can be accessed and downloaded via ‘classes-textbooks’. If you require a printed textbook, please contact Cathy.

What to bring to class? Just bring your textbook (whether it is a printed book or a digital book on your device), some pens and your enthusiasm! Worksheets or workbooks will be provided in the class.
